For Colored Girls...The Run Down

Went and saw For Colored Girls last night... Here's the run down:

The movie was based on the play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide... and directed by the king of movies for black women, none other than Tyler Perry.

It was awesome to see so many strong, beautiful, black actresses in one movie. Not to mention the hunks who were in supporting roles :D. I would give awards to Kimberly Elise and Anika Noni Rose for their outstanding performance in this film.  However, for me, the movie was way too predictable and took sappyness off the charts! The script, at times, was uber poetic which forced you to read between the lines to get a sense of what was happening. Nevertheless, as with all Tyler Perry movies there was a lesson to take away.

While each and everyone of the women in the movie was the victim of an unfortunate circumstance, that was true to life, the movie depicted:
1) How we often do nothing when we have the power to make a difference.
2) How we are sometimes so caught up in our own lives that we don't notice others in distress.
3) How at times our judgement becomes clouded and we go against our first and best instincts.
4) The importance of a support system to get through the tough times.
5) Ways that women can support each other regardless of what they've been though.
6) How everyone can learn from the mistakes of others.

For the messages I though the movie was great. However, if you haven't seen it yet I would wait till it comes out on dvd... Or even read the play.

Hope you're having a great weekend!

P.S. Feel free to respond with your thoughts on the movie.
