West Indian Women Respect Yourselves!

Today I came upon this article from a Trinidad Newspaper that some friends shared: One Leap Backward.
The contents of the article are so sad, but definitely a very good description of reality.

This month is Women's History Month, a celebration of women who struggled to achieve great things in the way of scholarship, civil rights, justice, equality and more, all of which have paved a way for us to have the opportunities we often take for granted today.  None of the achievements of the women we celebrate would be possible if they had not set high standards for themselves and commanded the respect of others and more specifically, men.

The description of the behavior of the young West Indian women in the article (written by a man) is telling of a break down in values, respect for self and ability to act responsibly.  One word - Shameful!

Going to university is not enough if you're trying to do anything worth remembering in this life!

Reading the article also reminded me of the positive message in this Calypso song from Tigress for Carnival 2011:
