Looking for something to do this weekend in NYC? Visit the 'CAN'struction display at the World Financial Center!
Today, at lunch, I went for a walk and stumbled upon this awesome display for philanthropy, creativity and commitment to the arts! The free display lines the halls of the mall at the World Financial Center and is definitely a site for sore eyes.
Get lost in the numerous structures made out of cans and non-perishable food and find the hidden messages/ pictures. These groups of artists used label colors to bring the can arrangements to life. All of the food used to make the displays was donated and will be given to needy New Yorkers.
Whether you make a day of it or stop by for a quick visit, you too CAN get in on the action!
The World Financial Center was redone after 9/11 and is absolutely breathtaking. There is a lot to do in the mall, which over looks the Hudson River on one side and the construction of the Freedom Towers on the other. There's also a movie theater across the street and some beautiful parks nearby.
Take the 1, 2, 3, A or C trains to Park Place or Chambers Street and walk west toward the World Trade Center. Cross West Street using the overpass and you're there! The displays will be up until November 22nd, 2010 and the building closes at about 10pm daily.
They are still accepting donations of non-perishable goods, it's not a must, but you can carry a can when you go!
Happy trails,
Nadia
P.S. I would post more pics but I don't want to spoil it for you... You have to see them in person!
